  School of Law of Anhui University has a long history. It was established in 1928 together with the founding of Anhui University. Department of Law was one of the departments from the beginning of the university history. In 1952 Department of Law was merged into East China University of Law and Politics during the restructuring of the higher education institutions. In the spring of 1979, Anhui University was authorized as one of the first group of universities by the Ministry of Education to restore and reconstruct the Department of Law, and the Department of Law enrolled undergraduate students majoring in law in the same year. Later, the Department of Law began to enroll undergraduate students majoring in economic law in 1993, and to enroll students majoring international economic law in 1994. The Department of Law only enrolled undergraduate students majoring in law when the Ministry of Education adjusted the major contents of undergraduate in 1998. The Department of Law has enrolled master program students majoring in Legal History, Civil Law, Economic Law, Administrative Law, International Law and others, with the professors and scholars like Chen Shengqing, Zhou Nan, Wang Rong, Zhu Xueshang and Chen Anming heading the list since 1982. In October 1996, School of Law was founded on the basis of Department of Law. The first dean of the Department of Law after the reconstruction was the prestigious expert in law, Professor Chen Shengqing, while the first dean of School of Law after its founding was Professor Wang Yuankuo, a PhD of law ( vice president of Anhui University at present). Now the dean of School of Law is Professor Li Mingfa, a PhD of law.

School of Law has the authority to grant master degree in seven programs, including legal history, procedural law, economic law, civil-commercial law, constitutional and administrative law, criminal law, and international law, and Juris Master (J.M.) degree. Economic law ranks among Provincial-level key subjects of Anhui Province. The Research Center of Economic Legal System of Anhui University ranks as the key research basis in the field of social sciences and humanities of the higher education institutions of Anhui Province. Anhui University Law Review, co-founded by the Center and the School of Law, publishes periodically two issues annually. The Law School now has eight teaching and research groups: legal history, national law, legal theory, criminal law, international law, economic law, civil-commercial law, procedural law, and a criminal technology laboratory. The School of Law has nearly 70 faculty members of whom more than 50 are full-time teachers, including 13 professors and 17 associate professors and 15 lecturers. Among the faculty, there are 9 PhDs (1 has finished his post-doctorate research, and 3 are working for their post-doctorate research), 9 teachers who are now working for their doctorate’ s degrees and 27 teachers who have got their master’s degree. The retired prestigious professors like Chen Shengqing and Zhu Xueshang are still undertaking the teaching and research work within their power. Professors like Chen Shengqing, Zhoutong, Zhu Xueshang, Wang Hanqing and Li Xuekuan occupied the posts of relevant subject research institutes of being president, executive president, honorary president, and vice president.

The teachers of School of Law play an active role in doing scientific research. In recent 5 years, 521 professional academic theses have been published, most of which have been published in the key periodicals like “China Law Science”, “Forum of Politics and Law”, “Law Science Review”, “Legal Science” and “Modern Law Science”. More than 30 individually-written or co-written monographs have been published. More than 30 textbooks have been individually or co-edited. The results of the faculty’s scientific research have won more than 20 awards including the first, second and third prizes of the Outstanding Social Science Results of Anhui Province, and the Higher Education Institutions Research Results of Humanities and Social Sciences of Anhui Province. School of Law has undertaken 3 state social sciences research projects, 1 state natural sciences research project and more than 10 research projects of Ministry of Education, Ministry of Judiciary, the Social Science Programming Office of Anhui Province, the Science Committee of Anhui Province, the Education Bureau of Anhui Province.

The Law School has the feature of integrating theories and teaching practices, and has achieved outstanding results. The Law School has received one first prize and one second prize of the State Outstanding Teaching Results, and one first prize of the Outstanding Teaching Results of Anhui Province. At present, School of Law is undertaking quite a few key and general teaching research projects of the Education Bureau of Anhui Province.
Besides carrying out the normal teaching and scientific research, the faculty of School of Law plays an active role in the state and local construction of law. Among them, there is the teacher, who is the member of the WTO Trade and Competition Policy Experts Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Commerce; there is the teacher, who is the member of the Anti-monopoly Law Experts Consultative Censors Committee of the Legal Office of State Department; there is the teacher, who is the committeeman of the Standing Committee of People’s Congress of Anhui Province; there are the teachers, who are the counselors of the provincial and municipal governments; and there are over 10 teachers, who are the members of the experts consultative committees of the provincial and municipal people’s court and people’s procuratorate.

In the past fifty years, School of Law has granted master's degree to over 600 students and bachelor's degree to more than 2,000 students. The graduates of School of Law spread all over the whole country. Many of the graduates are the backbones in the state celebrated higher institutes and universities of political science and law, the scientific research institutes and the practical legal departments, making their due contributions to our country’s law education course and to the democratic and legal construction of our country.
